Linda Mwananchi Alleges Plot to Delay Ol-Kalou By-Election, Levels Serious Claims Against IEBC and Government

The Linda Mwananchi movement has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and President William Ruto’s administration of allegedly laying the groundwork to postpone the forthcoming Ol-Kalou parliamentary by-election through what it describes as a coordinated plan involving violence and intimidation.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, July 11, the movement claimed that recent actions and public statements by the electoral commission suggest preparations are underway to delay the by-election.

“We have noted with deep concern the statements and actions of the IEBC which are clearly aimed at setting the stage for the postponement of the Ol Kalou Parliamentary by-election,” the statement reads.

The group further alleged that there are plans to provoke unrest in the constituency, claiming that attacks targeting its campaign team would be used as justification for postponing the vote.

According to Linda Mwananchi, individuals described as plain-clothes police officers and hired goons had allegedly been mobilised from Kiambu, Murang’a and Nakuru counties to disrupt the movement’s activities in Ol-Kalou.

“The strategy is to use Linda Mwananchi acts of self-defence against violent attacks as the excuse to declare a state of siege, necessitating the postponement of the by-election,” the statement claims.

FLASH NEWS has not independently verified these allegations. As of publication, the IEBC and the government had not publicly responded to the specific claims contained in the statement.

Change of Campaign Plans

The movement announced that, instead of proceeding with activities in Ol-Kalou, its leaders would tour Nyahururu, saying the move was intended to prevent what it termed attempts to derail the electoral process.

The statement maintained that residents of Ol-Kalou want the by-election to proceed without delay and urged supporters to remain calm and vigilant.

Appeal to Voters

Quoting Kenya’s freedom fighter Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, the movement called on residents to resist intimidation and reject alleged attempts to influence the outcome of the by-election through voter bribery.

“It is better to die while standing than to live on your knees,” the statement quoted.

The group also alleged that voter bribery was taking place, while expressing confidence that voters would safeguard what it described as their democratic sovereignty.

Awaiting Official Response

The allegations come amid heightened political activity ahead of the Ol-Kalou parliamentary by-election. The IEBC is constitutionally mandated to conduct free, fair and credible elections, while any claims of election interference remain subject to investigation and official verification.

Neither the IEBC nor State House had issued an official response to the allegations by the time this article was published.

FLASH NEWS will update this story should responses from the IEBC, security agencies or the government become available.
