Outcry as Pastor Ezekiel Claims God Told Him to Avoid Diani Plane that Crashed and Killed 11

New Life Prayer Centre founder Apostle Ezekiel Odero is under fire after claiming he narrowly missed boarding the plane that crashed in Diani, Kwale County on Tuesday, October 28 which killed 11 people.

During a church service on Thursday, October 30, the Kilifi-based preacher said he had planned to fly from Mombasa to Nairobi on the same day but changed his plans after what he called a divine warning.

“I had booked tickets to travel to Nairobi on the same day but I decided to take a train because I knew I was going to die,” Odero told the congregation. He said the revelation came to him during a midnight prayer session with his wife and they cancelled the flight and took the Standard Gauge Railway instead.

But Odero’s claims have been met with backlash on social media. Many Kenyans have accused him of lying and using the tragedy to get attention. Others have pointed out the glaring inconsistencies in his story and the crash details.

According to official reports, the plane that crashed was flying from Diani to Maasai Mara National Reserve in Narok County not to Nairobi as Odero claimed.

“His story seems to be wrong since the plane was going to Maasai Mara and not to Nairobi,” one user commented. Another asked, “Why didn’t he pray for the plane’s safety if he saw the tragedy?”

Critics have also asked why a religious leader would invoke God’s intervention only for personal protection and not for others.

Meanwhile some have accused the televangelist of using others’ misfortunes to get public attention. Odero has not responded to the criticism.
