Pastor Ezekiel Odero Issues Stark Warning After ‘Ark of the Covenant’ Stolen From Church
Newlife Prayer Centre and Church founder Pastor Ezekiel Odero has claimed that unknown individuals broke into his church and made away with what he described as the Ark of the Covenant, prompting a dramatic warning from the preacher about the consequences facing those responsible.
In remarks captured in a video that has since circulated widely on social media platform TikTok, Pastor Ezekiel said the item was taken from the church pulpit during a raid by unidentified men. He cautioned that the object should not be treated lightly, suggesting that it carries grave consequences for anyone who interferes with it.
“Some people accessed that pulpit and stole the Ark of the Covenant. They went with it. They don’t know that it’s dangerous. It can hit you,” Pastor Ezekiel said. “Even if you read the Bible, that thing hits people. I won’t talk about it because it will do its work, but woe unto you if the thief is your child. Woe unto you if the thief is your brother, because it doesn’t strike one person, it strikes the entire family.”
The Ark of the Covenant, as described in the Bible, was an ornate, gold-plated wooden chest that housed the two tablets of the Law given to Moses. According to scripture, it was built by the Israelites after their escape from Egypt and symbolised the presence of God among them.
More items reportedly stolen
Beyond the Ark, several other items were also stolen during the break-in, according to information obtained by Flashnews.co.ke. The incident is said to have occurred around two weeks ago, when thieves allegedly forced their way into the church premises.
Among the missing items are a kettle, a tray, six gold-plated cups and a sacred object locally referred to as chuma ya meno saba. All the items are believed to be of significant value and have not yet been recovered.
Reports indicate that the suspects were dressed in police jungle uniforms and were armed with pangas. During the raid, they allegedly found three worshippers who were in the middle of prayers, blindfolded them and tied them up before fleeing with the valuables.
Police confirm investigation
Police have since launched investigations into the incident. Kilifi North police boss Stanley Tonui confirmed that the matter had been reported and said a security guard stationed at the church had been arrested as the main suspect.
The church, which reportedly has the capacity to host more than 5,000 congregants in a single service, remains under scrutiny as investigations continue. Authorities are yet to establish how the suspects knew about the items kept within the premises or where they were stored.
As police pursue leads, Pastor Ezekiel’s warning has continued to draw attention online, fuelling debate and discussion over the incident and the claims surrounding the stolen Ark.
