President Ruto Wears Sh1.5 Million Rolex at Marsabit Church Service
President William Ruto has once again turned heads with his penchant for luxury fashion, this time donning a distinctive Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust during a church visit in Marsabit County.
The Head of State attended the 60th anniversary celebrations of the African Inland Church (AIC) Loglogo, where he was welcomed by Senator Kipchumba Murkomen. Photographs shared by Murkomen captured Ruto in his signature cream-colored Kaunda suit, paired with dark tan Oxford shoes, elevated further by the prestigious timepiece on his wrist.
According to Rolex, the Datejust has been in continuous production since the 1930s, remaining a cornerstone of the Oyster Perpetual collection. The watch features water resistance of up to 100 meters, a champagne-colored diamond-set dial, and the brand’s signature Oyster bracelet. It also includes an Oysterclasp and the Easylink comfort extension link, which allows the wearer to extend the bracelet by approximately 5mm for optimal comfort.
“Light is diffused consistently along each engraving, creating a characteristic, subtle glow that shifts with the position of the wrist,” Rolex’s official website explains. “Once the sunray finish has been applied, the dial colour is added using Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating. A light coat of varnish provides the dial with its final lustrous appearance.”
The model worn by Ruto incorporates Yellow Rolesor, a sophisticated combination of Oystersteel and yellow gold, as well as a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a Cyclops lens magnifying the date window. While Rolex does not disclose official prices, reputable retailers list the timepiece between Sh1.3 million and Sh1.6 million ($10,000 to $12,000).
Ruto’s high-end accessory comes just a day after Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho made headlines for wearing Sh116,000 Dolce & Gabbana SuperKing sneakers during the Orange Democratic Movement’s 20th-anniversary celebrations. Joho’s bold footwear, matching the party’s signature orange colour, dominated discussions on social media and highlighted his reputation as one of Kenya’s most stylish politicians.
The President himself has previously demonstrated a taste for luxury fashion. Earlier this year, he was photographed wearing Sh126,000 Ferragamo Gancini suede low-top sneakers while supporting Harambee Stars during their fixture against Zambia at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Ruto’s latest appearance in Marsabit underscores a growing trend among Kenyan politicians to embrace designer fashion, combining traditional attire with internationally recognised luxury brands, making personal style an increasingly visible part of their public persona.
