Raila Odinga in Good Health, Confirms Ida Odinga Amid Widespread Health Speculation

Ida Odinga has finally put to rest the growing speculation about her husband Raila Odinga’s health. The ODM leader is fine, she said.

Speaking in Migori on Tuesday, Ida revealed that Raila had gone out of the country for a short break after months of non-stop politics. She dismissed the rumors that the opposition chief was sick, saying she is the best person to know his health status.

“In the last one week, people have been disturbed by false claims that Raila is sick. If his condition was that serious, I would have taken him to a hospital here in Migori,” Ida said. “He is fine and just resting abroad. How can people who don’t live with him claim to know his health better than I do? Baba is okay.”

Ida also told supporters that Raila had sent his greetings to Kenyans and will be back home soon. Her remarks come at a time when online speculation was rife that the veteran politician had flown out of the country for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, ODM’s Communications Director Philip Etale also echoed Ida’s message, saying he had spoken to Raila.

“I just spoke to Raila Odinga less than five minutes ago. He is jovial and happy,” Etale said in a statement. “He told me, ‘I am seeing people spreading propaganda online. Let’s keep praying for them.’”

Etale added that Raila asked him to pass his greetings to Kenyans and assured supporters he will be back in the country in a few days.

The clarifications from Ida Odinga and Etale seem to have calmed down Raila’s supporters who had been worried by the unverified reports circulating online.
