Saba Saba: New Details Emerge on Protester Dragged by Police in Juja

New details have emerged on the video that surfaced after Saba Saba protests showing police officers in Juja, Kiambu County dragging the lifeless body of a man along a tarmac road. The incident occurred on July 7, 2025 and has reignited national outrage and scrutiny on police brutality during demos.

According to KTN News, the deceased was a motorcycle mechanic who was shot by a stray bullet during the protests. Though his identity is not confirmed, authorities say he was from Nyeri County. His body was taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika and booked as “unidentified”.

The graphic video shows two uniformed officers dragging the lifeless man by his limbs towards Juja police station. A third officer later joins, grabbing the remaining leg. Shockingly, several other officers are seen standing at the station’s entrance, none of them intervening to offer medical aid or assistance.

Witnesses who recorded the incident say the man was either critically injured or already dead when the dragging started. Instead of seeking medical attention, the officers treated the victim like an object, fuelling public anger.

Moments after the man was dragged away, another protester – believed to be trying to help or question the officers – was subdued, beaten and arrested. He joined dozens of others who were arrested during Juja protests.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for police accountability, with human rights groups and civil society urging an investigation. As of June 30, 2025, IPOA had not issued a statement. The anonymity of the deceased is a tragic reminder of the cost of protest violence in Kenya and the need for police reform during demos.
