According to a police report filed at Kapsabet Police Station, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Philip Kipchirchir Tuimur collapsed at approximately 5am at his residence in Kabutie Village, Kapng’etuny Location.
His brother, Andrew Tuimur, who reported the incident, said the officer suddenly lost consciousness, prompting family members to rush him to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.
Medical staff at the facility declared him dead on arrival.
Police officers who later visited the hospital documented the incident but noted that the immediate cause of death had not been established. A post-mortem examination is expected to provide more clarity in the coming days.
AIG Tuimur was serving at Vigilance House, the headquarters of the Kenya Police Service, at the time of his death. His career had previously drawn public attention after he was dismissed by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) following a vetting process in which he was found unsuitable to continue serving. However, the circumstances under which he was later reinstated to the service remained unclear, and no official explanation had been made public.
His body has since been transferred to Samaritan Farewell Home, where it has been preserved pending further examination.
The National Police Service has not yet issued a formal statement on the officer’s death.
