Grade 10 Transition

As Kenya prepares to roll out Grade 10 under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework starting January 2026, education stakeholders have told parents to help learners choose senior secondary schools and align their chosen pathways with long term career goals.

The Competency Based Education (CBE) curriculum will have 161 subject combinations in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) pathway for Grade 10 students entering senior school.

CBE has 125 subject combinations in the Social Sciences pathway for Grade 10 students moving to senior school.

The Ministry of Education has reclassified all secondary schools in preparation for the roll out of senior school under the competency based education (CBE) system in January 2026.

Garissa Township Member of Parliament, Dekow Mohamed, has urged the Ministry of Education to adequately prepare for the upcoming shift of learners from Grade 9 to Grade 10 in 2026.
