CBE to Offer 161 Senior School STEM Subject Combinations.
The Competency Based Education (CBE) curriculum will have 161 subject combinations in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) pathway for Grade 10 students entering senior school.
This comprehensive framework will equip students with advanced competencies in scientific inquiry, technical innovation and applied research across three tracks: Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences and Technical Studies.
The additional combinations are to align academic progression with national priorities in health, engineering, agriculture, environmental management and industrial development. Institutions implementing the senior school curriculum will have to offer all the combinations as per education standards and placement guidelines.

KICD noted that the wide range of combinations will allow learners to choose based on aptitude, performance and individual career interest inventories. Placement will be guided by subject performance in the lower secondary curriculum, aptitude assessments and capacity of institutions to deliver specialized content in line with the Basic Education Curriculum Framework.
The Ministry of Education said the STEM pathway is key to national development through human capital enhancement, research capacity and technological innovation.
