In a statement issued by Chairperson Erastus Ethukon on Wednesday, the Commission declared that official campaigns will run from October 8 to November 24, 2025.

Hassan acknowledged that he is Junet’s brother-in-law, a relationship that has drawn scrutiny from opposition leaders who claim it compromises the neutrality of the IEBC selection process.

Ethekon, who currently resides in Johannesburg, appeared before the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) for vetting, where lawmakers questioned his commitment to Kenya given his ongoing role at the continental organization.

The revelation was made by Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo during a presentation before the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriation Committee on May 28, 2025, in Nairobi.
