TSC Announces Over 9,000 New Teacher Vacancies as Attrition Replacements Begin Nationwide
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled more than 9,000 vacancies across public primary, junior and secondary schools as part of a nationwide effort to replace educators who left the service through natural attrition.
In a notice released on Tuesday, November 25, the Commission confirmed it is seeking to fill 7,065 primary school positions, 12 posts in junior schools and 2,082 positions in secondary schools during the 2025 recruitment phase. All appointments will be on permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC said the move was aimed at stabilising staffing levels in public institutions and ensuring uninterrupted learning across the country. “These positions have arisen following natural attrition. Eligible candidates are invited to apply in accordance with the Commission’s recruitment guidelines,” the agency announced.
Eligibility Requirements
According to TSC, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and hold valid TSC registration. Primary school applicants are required to have at least a P1 certificate, while those seeking placements in junior and secondary schools must possess a minimum Diploma in Education.
The Commission also emphasised that all shortlisted candidates will be expected to present original academic and professional certificates, including KCPE and KCSE credentials.
How to Apply
Candidates have been instructed to submit applications exclusively online via the TSC portals:
- tsc.go.ke (under the Careers section), or
- teachersonline.tsc.go.ke
The deadline for submission is December 8, 2025.
“Manual applications will not be considered,” TSC said, adding that preference would be given to applicants who have not previously been employed by the Commission.
The notice also warned against submitting multiple applications for the same recruitment cycle. “Any candidate found to have completed more than one employment form will be disqualified,” the agency stated.
Posting and Recruitment Guidelines
TSC reiterated that the recruitment will follow the official 2025/2026 guidelines, and that the merit list generated during this round will be used for other related staffing exercises within the financial year. Successful candidates are expected to accept deployment to any part of the country, regardless of where the interview was conducted.
Warning Against Fraudsters
The Commission reminded the public that the recruitment process is free of charge. “Applicants are cautioned against fraudsters who may attempt to extort money during the process. The Commission does not charge any fee at any stage of recruitment,” TSC said.
The announcement comes as schools across Kenya continue to grapple with staffing gaps driven by retirements, resignations and natural attrition. The latest hiring round is expected to ease pressure in key learning areas as the 2026 academic year approaches.
