TSC Takes Action on Alliance Girls High School Teacher Accused of Sexual Misconduct.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has placed a teacher at Alliance Girls High School on 30 days compulsory leave following allegations of sexual misconduct and professional malpractice. The decision was made by Acting TSC Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei on Tuesday, 25 July 2025 after investigations into the teacher’s conduct intensified.

According to TSC, the teacher has contravened multiple provisions of the Teachers Service Commission Act and the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT) and is therefore guilty of professional misconduct. The Commission said the compulsory leave is to facilitate an independent inquiry without interference.

The allegations came to the fore after an investigative exposé by Africa Uncensored, The Teacher and the System, was published which documented a pattern of abuse spanning over two decades. Alliance Girls High School confirmed they are cooperating fully with the authorities and reiterated their commitment to protecting the learners.

TSC said the teacher will continue to receive full salary and allowances during the suspension period pending the outcome of the investigations. The Commission said due process will be followed as per the regulations and the teacher will be informed formally once the inquiry is concluded.

Public pressure mounted after multiple claims emerged involving the teacher and several students. Former students and staff accused the teacher of using his position as Christian Union patron and mentor to manipulate and abuse vulnerable learners.

On Thursday, 10 July 2025, alumni of Alliance Girls High School held peaceful demonstrations at the school demanding action from TSC.

Demonstrators wore white shirts and carried placards with messages like “Protect the Girls, Not the Predators” and criticized TSC for taking long to respond to their initial correspondence and vowed to continue seeking accountability.Education CS Julius Bitok then directed the police to arrest and interdict the teacher.

Speaking the same day during a Thanksgiving Day event at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, Bitok said: “That teacher will be punished. We have spoken to TSC and all the other stakeholders so he will be arrested.”

FIDA-Kenya also issued a statement on Tuesday 8th July 2025 demanding that disciplinary and legal action be taken against the teacher and any administrators who may have been involved. FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu expressed worry that the school leadership is not taking decisive action and asked the Ministry of Education to put in place mechanisms in all institutions to address sexual and gender based violence.

Legal practitioners have highlighted the legal consequences the teacher may face. According to Advocate Danstan Omari the allegations fall under the Sexual Offences Act, specifically Section 8 which deals with defilement of minors aged 16 to 18 years and prescribes a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment.

Omari further noted that Section 6 of the Act which criminalises compelling or inducing indecent acts carries a sentence of 5 to life imprisonment. Section 11 of the Act prescribes a minimum sentence of 10 years for indecent acts with minors with enhanced penalties for repeated or aggravated offenses.

TSC confirmed that if found guilty the teacher will be deregistered and removed from the teaching register permanently. The Commission will issue updates once the investigative and disciplinary process is complete.
