TSC to Recruit 24,000 More Teachers by Year-End – Education PS Julius Bitok
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will hire an additional 24,000 teachers before the year concludes in an effort to enhance the teacher-learner ratio in public schools. This recruitment initiative is part of a broader strategy to address staffing challenges in the education sector.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated that this move would raise the total number of newly employed teachers over the past two years to 100,000. He explained that the Ministry of Education is committed to improving the quality of education and ensuring adequate staffing across all levels.
So far, 76,000 teachers have already been deployed to both junior and secondary schools. These teachers are intended to support the implementation of the Curriculum-Based Education system and to address existing shortages that have strained public institutions.
Starting next year, the government intends to hire an additional 16,000 teachers. This move is aligned with the administration’s target of employing 116,000 teachers within a five-year period. Bitok emphasized that this commitment remains a top priority for the current government.
Bitok made these remarks at Baringo High School while officiating the institution’s 60th anniversary celebration. During his address, he reiterated the government’s dedication to meeting its staffing pledges and ensuring that learners across the country receive quality education.
“We are determined to meet our goal and bridge the staffing gap in our schools,” Bitok declared. He added that the recruitment is crucial to supporting ongoing education reforms. “With more teachers in place, the learning environment will greatly improve for our students,” he noted.
