Kirinyaga Horror as AP Officer Allegedly Shoots Partner Dead Before Turning Gun on Himself
Residents of Kimbimbi trading centre in Kirinyaga County have been left reeling after an Administration Police (AP) officer allegedly shot his partner dead before taking his own life in a suspected murder-suicide inside their official residence.
The tragic incident is reported to have occurred on Monday, July 20, at the officer’s station house in Mwea East Sub-County, where he was attached.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the 56-year-old officer allegedly fired five shots, striking his partner four times in the chest before turning the firearm on himself and shooting himself in the neck.
The disturbing incident remained undiscovered for several hours until fellow officers arrived at the station house to collect firearm keys.
After repeatedly knocking on the door without receiving any response, the officers became suspicious and decided to look through a window.
What they saw was a horrifying scene.
The woman’s lifeless body was lying motionless inside the bedroom, prompting the officers to immediately alert Mwea East Administration Police Commander Stephen Okal, who rushed to the scene and ordered the door to be forced open.
Upon entering the house, officers discovered the AP officer’s body lying in the sitting room, confirming that both had died inside the residence.
Police believe the gunshots may have gone unnoticed because the house is located behind dense trees and thick vegetation that likely muffled the sound, preventing nearby residents from realising what had happened.
The woman was well known in Kimbimbi trading centre, where she operated a small retail shop. Neighbours described her as friendly, hardworking and welcoming, saying she had built strong relationships with customers over the years.
The officer was also remembered as approachable and dependable. Residents said he had previously worked as a security guard at a bank in Ngurubani before later joining the Administration Police Service and eventually being posted to Mwea East.
According to neighbours, the couple had lived together for approximately three years and had never publicly displayed signs of serious conflict, making the tragedy even more shocking for the community.
Confirming the incident, Mwea East Administration Police Commander Stephen Okal said relatives from both families had since arrived at the scene. The woman’s family travelled from within Kirinyaga County, while the officer’s relatives came from Kiambu County.
The bodies were later moved to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted as detectives continue investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
Police have not yet established the motive behind the suspected murder-suicide, and investigations remain ongoing.
