Babu Owino Breaks Silence After ‘Gun Threat’ Restaurant Clash With Robert Alai

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has broken his silence over what he describes as a terrifying and life-threatening confrontation with Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani, Nairobi.

In a public statement issued on Sunday, January 4, the outspoken lawmaker claimed the incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon while he was attending a private meeting with a senior clergyman — notably without his usual security detail, whom he said he had released for the Christmas holidays.

According to Babu, the meeting had been underway for about 20 minutes when he became aware of a nearby group seated at another table, among them Robert Alai.

The MP alleged that Alai confronted him and accused him of orchestrating online attacks against his wife, claims Babu firmly rejected.

“I calmly explained that I do not know his wife, that she has never wronged me in any way, and that I have no reason whatsoever to involve innocent family members in politics,” Babu said.
“It is not my style to advance my politics by attacking women.”

However, the situation allegedly escalated rapidly.

Babu claimed that Alai became aggressive, pushed him, and then brandished a firearm, striking him on the chest and jaw — an incident the MP said occurred in full view of other diners at the restaurant.

Moments later, the lawmaker further alleged that Alai poured a glass of water on his face, drawing the attention of shocked patrons and prompting a crowd to gather at the scene.

Fearing further escalation, Babu said he immediately left the premises and proceeded to Kilimani Police Station, where he formally reported the incident.

The Embakasi East MP described the episode as part of what he termed a broader pattern of threats and intimidation, which he claims intensified following the death of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

He also referenced previous confrontations at a burial in Siaya, alleging they were part of a coordinated political campaign aimed at intimidating and discrediting him.

The alleged altercation has since triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some Kenyans expressing shock at the claims and others calling on police to act swiftly and transparently.

As of the time of publication, Robert Alai had not responded publicly to the allegations, while police had yet to issue an official update on the reported investigation.
