Babu Owino Tops Infotrak Survey, Overtakes Ndindi Nyoro as Kenya’s Best-Performing MP

Babu Owino Overtakes Ndindi Nyoro as Kenya’s Best-Performing MP in New Infotrak Survey

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has emerged as Kenya’s highest-rated Member of Parliament, overtaking Kiharu legislator Ndindi Nyoro in the latest national leadership performance survey released by research firm Infotrak.

The survey, published on Wednesday, July 1, places Owino at the top of the rankings with an approval rating of 80 per cent, marking a significant shift in public perception as Kenya inches closer to the 2027 General Election.

Coming in second is Majimbo Kalasinga, the MP for Kabuchai, who scored 78 per cent, while Nyoro dropped to third place with 76 per cent, tying with Taveta MP John Bwire.

The latest rankings represent a notable change from previous Infotrak polls, where Nyoro consistently featured among the country’s best-performing lawmakers, often occupying either the top spot or second place behind Owino.

The nationwide survey offers a citizen-based assessment of the performance of Members of Parliament, Senators and Women Representatives, measuring how Kenyans perceive the effectiveness of their elected leaders.

According to Infotrak, the study gathered responses from 87,286 respondents across all 47 counties, with participants rating their leaders on a scale of one to ten, where one represented very poor performance and ten represented excellent performance.

The rankings assessed several indicators of leadership, including accessibility to constituents, visibility, responsiveness to public concerns, communication, accountability and stewardship of public resources.

Among the other top-performing MPs were Samburu West legislator Josephine Lesuuda, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo Kipkoech, Belgut MP Nelson Koech and Mkurweini MP John Kaguchia Gichohi, each recording approval ratings of 73 per cent.

Others who secured ratings above 70 per cent include Aldai MP Marianne Kitany, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Samburu East MP Jackson Lekumontare, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu Nzioka and Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi.

Beyond the National Assembly, the survey also ranked Senators and Women Representatives.

Kirinyaga emerged as the county with the highest-rated leaders in both categories, with Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina topping the Women Representatives’ rankings with an approval rating of 67 per cent, while Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango led all senators nationally with 69 per cent.

Explaining the rationale behind the survey, Infotrak said the findings reflect how citizens continue to evaluate their leaders long after elections have ended.

“Elections give citizens the power to choose leaders. Between elections, citizens continue to observe, assess and judge the quality of leadership they receive. They observe whether leaders are present or absent,” the research firm said in its report.

The findings are expected to shape political conversations ahead of the 2027 General Election, with approval ratings increasingly viewed as an indicator of public confidence and electoral strength.
