Armed robber caught on CCTV terrorising women outside Ruaka salon before firing gunshot and fleeing
Residents of Ruaka in Kiambu County have been left shaken after a brazen armed robbery was captured on CCTV, showing a gun-wielding suspect attacking women outside a salon before stealing a mobile phone, firing a gunshot and escaping on a waiting motorcycle.

The dramatic incident, which has since sparked concern on social media, is the latest in a string of violent robberies reported in parts of Nairobi and neighbouring Kiambu County, where criminals have increasingly targeted unsuspecting members of the public in broad daylight.
CCTV footage from the scene shows two women standing outside a salon moments before a man, allegedly armed with a pistol, approaches them. Without warning, the suspect confronts the women and demands that one of them surrender her mobile phone.
According to eyewitness accounts and the footage, the victim appeared to hesitate and attempted to conceal the phone. The suspect then allegedly became violent, grabbing the woman, assaulting her and striking her with the firearm as terrified screams filled the area.
The frightening ordeal unfolded within seconds, leaving bystanders visibly shocked and fearing for their own safety.
Moments after snatching the phone, the suspect is seen firing a gunshot into the air before sprinting towards a motorcycle believed to have been waiting nearby. He then fled the scene with an accomplice before members of the public could intervene.
No injuries resulting from the gunshot have been reported, but the victims were left traumatised by the terrifying encounter.
The footage has renewed concerns over rising insecurity in Ruaka and surrounding areas, with residents urging security agencies to intensify patrols and bring those responsible to justice.
Police are expected to rely on the CCTV footage as part of investigations to identify and track down the suspect and any accomplices involved in the robbery.
The incident comes amid growing calls for stronger security measures in urban centres following a series of armed robberies targeting pedestrians, motorists and business premises across Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
