Diogo Jota’s Heartbreaking Final Instagram Post Emerges After Fatal Car Crash

Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota’s final Instagram post has gone viral and broken hearts after he died in a car accident in Spain. Jota, 28, died alongside his younger brother André Silva in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Just hours before the crash Jota posted a video montage of his recent wedding to his long term partner Rute Cardoso. The lovely footage showed intimate moments from the ceremony and celebrations, with the caption: “A day we will never forget,” followed by a heart emoji. The post has since had tens of thousands of tributes and messages from fans and fellow players.

Jota and Cardoso had been together since 2012 and had three children. The wedding 11 days before the tragedy was attended by close family and friends. Rute had also posted moments from the ceremony, writing: “Yes to forever. My dream came true.” Jota had added: “I’m the lucky one.”

The crash happened in the province of Zamora where local authorities said the brothers’ Lamborghini left the road after a tyre blowout while overtaking another car. The car caught fire after the impact and both men were fatally injured at the scene.

Liverpool Football Club released a statement:
“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre… We will continue to support them.”

The Portuguese Football Federation said:
“The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated.”

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and became a fan favourite scoring 65 goals in 182 games. He also played a key role in Portugal’s Nations League win over Spain earlier this year.

The football world is mourning not just the loss of a great player but also the man behind the final post – one that showed joy, love and a future that was tragically cut short.
