Family Rift Emerges Following Betty Bayo’s Death: Brother Speaks Out on Custody and Inheritance
Gospel musician Betty Bayo’s brother, Edward Mbugua, has broken his silence weeks after the celebrated singer’s untimely death, revealing deep family tensions and disputes over custody and inheritance.
Mbugua took to TikTok to address the ongoing drama, claiming that members of the late musician’s family have been denied access to their nephews and nieces. He stressed that the family only recognises Pastor Victor Kanyari as the father of Bayo’s children, Sky and Danny, and insisted that Kanyari should have full custody.
“Kanyari is the biological father to Sky and Danny, and we share blood with Kanyari. Bayo united us through those two kids, and you cannot divide the children and the assets. We are the family of Bayo, and Kanyari is the father,” Mbugua said.
He also reflected on his close relationship with Betty Bayo, revealing that he had been involved in her investment plans over the years. Mbugua insisted that his sister’s assets should be preserved for her children.
“I want everything that belongs to my sister to be put in one place because the kids are growing, and these are their mother’s assets. There is no discussion,” he added.
Questions over Marriage and Legal Rights
Mbugua further sparked controversy by claiming that Bayo’s widower, Hiram Gitau, also known as Tash, was never legally married to his sister. Responding to a Kenyan social media user who suggested that Tash should inherit all of Bayo’s estate as her legal husband, Mbugua stated:
“Everything is with the next of kin, and things are slowly coming to light. No one married anyone anywhere. It never reached that point; it was just a celebration. If you know how the ruracio rituals go, there was none there, and I was there.”
His revelations have prompted a flurry of discussion online, with social media users debating the legitimacy of inheritance claims and the legal standing of Bayo’s widower.
As family disputes continue to unfold, it remains unclear how custody of Sky and Danny will be settled or how Bayo’s estate will be distributed.
