French Embassy Announces 170 Teaching Posts for Kenyan Students

Kenyan university students and recent graduates are being offered a rare opportunity to gain international experience in education through a new French government initiative that will see 170 English teaching assistant positions opened in France.

The French Embassy in Kenya has officially announced the launch of its Language Teaching Assistant Programme for the 2026–2027 academic year, inviting applications from qualified Kenyan candidates eager to teach English in public schools across mainland France and its overseas departments.

According to the embassy, successful applicants will serve as English Language Assistants for a period of seven months, where they will assist French teachers in improving students’ spoken and written English while immersing themselves in the French educational and cultural system.

“This initiative provides a platform for young Kenyans to enhance their teaching skills, immerse themselves in French culture, and contribute to educational exchange between our countries,”
the Embassy said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Application Timeline and Requirements

The application window opens on November 15, 2025, and will close on January 15, 2026. Following submission, pre-selection will be carried out in January, with interviews scheduled between January and February 2026. Final results will be announced in May 2026, while successful candidates will receive their official assignments in June 2026.

Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria, including being between the ages of 20 and 35, currently enrolled in a university, TVET institution, or the Alliance Française, and having studied primarily in Kenya. A minimum B1 level in French is also required to qualify.

The Embassy emphasised that the selection process will consider both academic merit and adaptability, noting that candidates who demonstrate cultural flexibility and strong communication skills will have an advantage.

Access to Application Details

Interested candidates have been advised to carefully review all instructions and submit complete documentation within the stated timeframe to avoid disqualification.

The Embassy further encouraged applicants to stay informed about programme updates by joining the official WhatsApp group via chat.whatsapp.com/I4KGpzZ69IxFud and consulting the Embassy’s official website at ke.ambafrance.org for detailed guidelines and application materials.

“More detailed information and application guidelines are also available on the French Embassy’s Kenya website,”
the notice added.

Promoting Global Exchange

The initiative forms part of France’s wider commitment to promoting language and cultural exchange with partner countries, particularly within Africa. Over the years, the programme has provided hundreds of young professionals with an opportunity to gain practical teaching experience, improve their French proficiency, and build international networks.

Former participants have described the programme as “transformative,” praising its blend of hands-on classroom experience, cultural immersion, and personal development. Many noted that it has opened doors to further academic opportunities and international careers.

With 170 teaching assistant posts available for the 2026–2027 cohort, the Embassy hopes to attract passionate and motivated young Kenyans seeking to expand their professional horizons and contribute to educational cooperation between Kenya and France.
