Germany Opens Doors for Kenyans With KSh106,000 Monthly Scholarship Opportunity
Young Kenyans seeking international academic and political exposure have been handed a major opportunity after the German government announced applications for its prestigious International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS), a programme that comes with a monthly stipend of about KSh106,000.

The announcement, made by the German Embassy in Nairobi on May 6, has already sparked excitement among graduates and young professionals interested in politics, governance, diplomacy and international relations.
In a statement, the embassy urged qualified Kenyans to submit their applications before the May 15, 2026 deadline.
“The German Embassy in Nairobi is excited to announce the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) in Germany,” the embassy stated.
The highly competitive programme offers around 120 politically and socially active young people from nearly 50 countries an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within Germany’s parliamentary system.
Successful applicants will spend five months in Berlin learning how the German Bundestag — Germany’s federal parliament — operates, while also interacting with lawmakers, political institutions and universities.
The initiative is conducted in partnership with some of Germany’s leading institutions of higher learning, including Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin.
What Successful Applicants Will Receive
Participants selected for the programme will receive a monthly allowance of 700 euros, equivalent to roughly KSh106,000 at current exchange rates.
The scholarship package also includes:
- Fully paid accommodation in Berlin
- Travel costs to and from Germany
- Accident and liability insurance cover
- Enrollment at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for the summer semester
- Access to up to two university courses during the programme
The German Embassy noted that the programme is specifically designed to deepen participants’ understanding of democratic governance and parliamentary processes.
Observers say the scholarship presents a rare opportunity for Kenyan youth to gain international exposure while sharpening leadership and governance skills.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the IPS programme, applicants must:
- Be Kenyan citizens or citizens of participating countries
- Be under 30 years old at the start of the programme
- Hold at least a university degree in any discipline
- Demonstrate strong interest in politics and social issues
- Show evidence of social or political engagement
- Possess strong German language skills of at least B2 level under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
The language requirement is expected to be one of the biggest hurdles for many applicants, given that the programme involves direct interaction within German political and academic institutions.
How to Apply

Interested candidates are required to submit their applications through the IPS digital application portal.
Applicants outside certain regions may also be required to send a single PDF application document to the relevant German diplomatic mission.
The German Embassy emphasized that all applications must be submitted before May 15, 2026.
The scholarship announcement comes at a time when more Kenyan students and professionals are increasingly seeking international study and exchange opportunities amid rising demand for global education and career exposure.
