Gor Mahia Midfielder Enock Morrison Involved in Road Accident on His Way to Training
Kenya Premier League giants Gor Mahia FC have confirmed that Ghanaian midfielder Enock Morrison sustained a calf injury following a road accident on his way to training.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the club reassured fans that the injury was not serious. “Midfielder Enock Morrison sustained a calf injury in an accident en route to training; the medical update is positive – no fractures, he is able to walk and has been discharged. Wishing him a speedy recovery,” Gor Mahia posted on X.
The incident comes just days after four other Gor Mahia players, including Austine Odhiambo and Fidel Origa, were involved in a separate road accident on Friday, November 29. Fortunately, all four sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from a city hospital.
Mashemeji Derby Rescheduled
Morrison’s injury coincides with the build-up to the 98th edition of the famed Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards, initially scheduled for Sunday, November 30, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. However, the league clash has now been postponed.
Gor Mahia Secretary General Nicanor Arum confirmed that the club, as hosts of the fixture, faced logistical challenges in securing a venue. In a letter to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Manager Frank Ogolla dated Wednesday, November 26, Arum explained:
“We have been unable to secure a suitable venue for the fixture and are therefore requesting that the derby be postponed to a later date to be communicated by FKF.”
The original venue, Kasarani Stadium, was unavailable due to a CAF Confederation Cup group stage match between Nairobi United and DR Congo side AS Maniema Union on the same day. Nyayo National Stadium, considered as an alternative, was also reserved for the State House World AIDS Day ceremony scheduled for December 1, with preparations beginning as early as Saturday, November 29.
The rescheduled derby is now set to take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium. Gor Mahia will be hoping for a full squad, including Morrison, as they face their bitter rivals in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
“We are monitoring Morrison’s recovery closely and hope he will be fit in time for the derby,” a club insider told reporters.
The Mashemeji Derby remains one of Kenyan football’s most anticipated clashes, drawing thousands of fans and intense national media coverage.
