Huduma Kenya Extends Hours to 7pm in Major Service Delivery Shake-Up

Huduma Kenya Extends Operating Hours to 7pm in Major Towns Amid Rising Demand for Government Services

Kenyans seeking crucial government services will now have more time to access Huduma Centres after Huduma Kenya announced the extension of operating hours in selected centres across the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 14, Huduma Kenya revealed that at least 20 centres will now operate from 7am to 7pm in a move aimed at improving service delivery, easing congestion and accommodating citizens unable to visit during normal working hours.

The directive comes as thousands of Kenyans rush to beat key deadlines for services such as tax filing, national identification card collection, smart driving licence applications and passport processing.

According to Huduma Kenya, the expanded schedule is part of a wider effort to make government services more accessible and convenient to citizens across the country.

“Huduma Kenya is here to serve you better. To make government services more accessible, 20 select centres across the country are now operating with extended hours, from 7am to 7pm,” the agency announced.

“This means you can visit early in the morning, during the day, or even after work, and still get the help you need. Whether it’s renewing your documents or seeking information, Huduma Centres are ready when you are,” the statement added.

Among the centres expected to operate under the new schedule are GPO, City Square, Eastleigh, Kisumu, Kakamega, Embu, Kisii, Nakuru, Nyeri, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kitale, Kiambu, Kericho and Makadara Huduma Centres. Others include centres in Meru, Migori and Mombasa.

The centres will continue offering a range of essential government services, including Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax filing and compliance support, National ID application and collection, smart driving licence processing, and passport-related services.

Citizens will also be able to access Social Health Authority (SHA) services, birth certificate applications, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) assistance, business registration and eCitizen support.

The government hopes the move will significantly reduce overcrowding in service halls while speeding up service delivery for millions of Kenyans who often face long queues and delays.

The extended hours are also expected to benefit employed Kenyans and business owners who struggle to access government offices during standard daytime operating hours.

The announcement comes amid increased pressure on public service centres as demand for digital and identification services continues to rise across the country.
