I WILL SUE!” Oburu explodes as Gachagua claims he was ‘bought’ by Ruto

Senior Oburu Oginga has issued a stark legal warning to his political rivals, threatening to sue over explosive claims that he has been “bought” by allies of President William Ruto.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) stalwart said he would pursue court action against figures linked to the opposition bloc led by Rigathi Gachagua, accusing them of peddling “baseless and defamatory” allegations.

Speaking during an ODM Youth Convention in Nairobi on Monday, Dr Oginga dismissed the accusations with defiance, insisting he cannot be compromised.

“Even if they abuse us, we are still moving forward. But one of them claims Oburu has been bought. I will take him to court to explain how much Oburu was allegedly bought for. I cannot be bought,” he declared.

Gachagua’s accusations escalate political tensions

Mr Gachagua has emerged as one of the fiercest critics of the so-called “broad-based government” arrangement, repeatedly alleging that senior ODM figures have been co-opted by the state.

In remarks delivered over the weekend, he singled out Dr Oginga alongside Gladys Wanga and Junet Mohamed, claiming they had received a “deposit” to steer ODM toward President Ruto’s camp.

“The ODM that used to defend Kenyans has now been bought by Ruto through Gladys Wanga and Oburu Odinga,” Mr Gachagua said.
“I told the people of ODM that Ruto will finish your party.”

ODM leaders hit back

Dr Oginga, however, struck a combative tone, insisting ODM remains resilient despite mounting political pressure.

“Our party will grow from strength to strength. It is too big to be swallowed. If you try to swallow it, your stomach will burst,” he warned.

His remarks were echoed by Suna East MP Mr Mohamed, who dismissed Mr Gachagua’s criticism outright.

“We cannot listen to people like Gachagua who lead a village party. Even Migori County is too big for his DCP party,” he said.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati also rejected claims that ODM relies on state backing, insisting the party is financially self-sufficient.

Meanwhile, Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho reaffirmed his loyalty to ODM, vowing unwavering support.

“We will die with this party. We will stand with our party in kind and in cash. If they bring money, we shall match it,” he said.
“Kwani iko nini? Kama noma, noma!”

Growing rift within opposition politics

The escalating war of words underscores deepening divisions within Kenya’s opposition landscape, with accusations of betrayal and political realignment threatening to reshape alliances ahead of future contests.
