MP John Kaguchia Claims Armed Men Pursued Him After TV Appearance as Mystery Surrounds Alleged Police Operation
Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia has claimed that heavily armed and masked men surrounded Royal Media Services headquarters in Nairobi in an alleged attempt to arrest him shortly after he appeared on a live television programme.
The dramatic claims were made in the early hours of Monday, August 3, 2026, with the MP alleging that a large contingent of armed men had descended on the media station after his appearance on the Kiririmbi Show.
According to Kaguchia, more than 40 hooded and masked men were involved in the alleged operation, accompanied by more than a dozen Subaru vehicles and double-cab pickups.
“After my Kiririmbi Show this evening, a contingent of police surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected roadblocks with intentions of arresting me. I will not be intimidated whatsoever,” Kaguchia said.
The MP further claimed that the individuals involved were not wearing police uniforms, leaving questions over their identity and whether they were acting as part of an official security operation.
The allegations have yet to be independently verified, and neither the National Police Service nor the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had publicly confirmed the operation or explained the reported presence of armed personnel at the time of publication.
Roadblocks reported near Royal Media studios
Kaguchia’s claims were accompanied by reports of unusual activity along Maalim Juma Road, near its junction with Dennis Pritt Road.
Motorists reportedly encountered roadblocks that allegedly restricted traffic to a single lane, while witnesses claimed that vehicles approaching the Royal Media Services premises were stopped and searched.
Some witnesses further alleged that several masked and heavily armed individuals were involved in the operation.
The reported presence of armed personnel outside a major media organisation has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the alleged operation, particularly given Kaguchia’s assertion that those involved were not in identifiable police uniforms.
However, without confirmation from the security authorities, it remains unclear who the individuals were, whether they were law-enforcement officers and, if so, what prompted their alleged deployment.
Claims follow controversial political remarks
The allegations come against the backdrop of growing political controversy surrounding Kaguchia following remarks he reportedly made during a gathering in Kieni over the weekend.
Speaking in his native language, the MP appeared to warn residents against supporting President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, with remarks interpreted by critics as suggesting that those who voted for the President would be “smoked out” of their homes.
The comments triggered criticism from several prominent political figures.
Presidential Adviser Dennis Itumbi reportedly condemned the remarks as undemocratic, while Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi also criticised the language used by the MP.
The controversy has since spilled onto social media, with critics accusing Kaguchia of encouraging political intolerance. His supporters, however, have argued that his remarks should be understood within their wider political context.
Kaguchia, who represents Mukurweini Constituency in Nyeri County, is a UDA legislator in Kenya’s 13th Parliament. Parliamentary records identify him as John Philip Gichohi Kaguchia and confirm his constituency and party affiliation.
The latest incident is therefore likely to intensify scrutiny of the outspoken legislator as political temperatures rise ahead of the 2027 General Election.
For now, however, key questions remain unanswered: who allegedly surrounded the Royal Media Services premises, why were they there, and were they acting under official instructions?
Until the relevant authorities provide clarification, Kaguchia’s account remains an allegation that has not been independently verified.
