Joho Sparks Buzz at ODM@20 After Stepping Out in Sh116k Dolce Gabbana Super King Designer Sneakers
Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho sparked fresh conversation over his high-end fashion tastes after being photographed wearing a pair of luxury Dolce & Gabbana SuperKing sneakers during the vibrant ODM@20 anniversary celebrations.
The commemorative event, held to mark 20 years of the Orange Democratic Movement’s political presence, drew party leaders, loyalists and entertainers from across the country. The atmosphere was charged with music, speeches and nostalgia as senior members reflected on the party’s two-decade journey.
But even amid the political fanfare, it was Joho’s bold fashion statement that seized public attention. The former governor stepped out in SuperKing sneakers, a designer line retailing between USD 500 (approximately Sh65,000) and USD 990 (approximately Sh116,000). The striking footwear, known for its oversized build and signature luxury detailing, complemented his bright orange outfit worn in honour of the party’s colours.
A party official who attended the celebration told reporters the look was “classic Joho”, adding: “He has always carried himself with flair. You expect politics from him, but you also expect style.”
Joho, long associated with polished appearances and premium fashion, has never shied away from showcasing his affinity for luxury labels. Over the years, he has been photographed in a series of high-end outfits that have repeatedly gone viral.
Fashion commentators still recall an earlier appearance in a white Moncler Dincer jacket, valued at Sh230,000, paired with Alexander McQueen New Court Eco sneakers worth Sh70,000. In another instance, during an online interview on Obina TV, Joho was seen wearing shoes believed to be Christian Louboutin Simon Derby, retailing at USD 1,250 (approximately Sh161,700 at the time).
His designer collection does not end there. The former governor has previously been spotted in Louis Vuitton sneakers costing around Sh97,000, and most notably, a Richard Mille luxury watch reportedly worth Sh45 million—an accessory that drew widespread reaction on social media.
Analysts note that Joho’s fashion choices have become part of his political identity, projecting an image of confidence, modernity and affluence. While supporters view his style as a symbol of personal success, critics occasionally question the optics of such luxury in a country grappling with economic challenges.
Still, Joho’s supporters maintain that his wardrobe has always been a secondary talking point to his political influence. As one ODM insider put it: “Whether he is in a designer jacket or simple attire, Joho remains one of the most recognisable figures in the party. The fashion is just part of the package.”
As ODM celebrates its 20-year milestone, Joho’s latest appearance has once again underscored why he remains one of Kenya’s most closely watched political personalities—both for his public roles and unmistakable style.
