Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga Breaks Silence After Goons Attack His Home

Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has spoken publicly for the first time following a violent assault on his residence on Saturday, November 22, 2025, an incident that occurred shortly after he hosted Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and his campaign team in Bungoma County.

The governor’s entourage had been in the constituency to campaign for Erick Wekesa, an independent candidate contesting the Chwele–Kabuchai MCA by-election.

In a statement issued on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Kalasinga confirmed that one of his security guards suffered life-altering injuries as a result of the attack.
“You invaded my home and injured one of my watchmen; as I talk, he lost both his hands and legs,” the MP said, describing the guard as “a man who has a family and was just trying to earn a living and provide for his family.”

Property Vandalised in Late-Evening Attack

Video footage shared online by Governor Natembeya showed smashed windows and extensive vandalism at the MP’s two-storey residence in Chwele, Kabuchai Constituency. Debris could be seen scattered across the compound as police launched investigations into the incident.

The attack triggered widespread condemnation from political leaders across the region, with several pointing fingers at senior government figures.

Natembeya: “This Should Never Happen in a Democratic Country”

Governor Natembeya, who first posted footage of the destruction, directly accused National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of orchestrating the assault.

“It is sad that a leader in the National Assembly is the one doing these things,” Natembeya claimed. “Sending goons to destroy the home of an MP because of different political ideologies should never happen in a democratic country.”

Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati voiced similar sentiments, warning that the attack set a dangerous precedent.

“If a whole Speaker of the National Assembly can send goons to vandalise the house of a Member of Parliament just because of an MCA seat by-election, then indeed these are desperate times,” Wangamati wrote on Facebook.

Political Parties Call for Action

The Democracy Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), under which Natembeya serves, also condemned the violence and called for swift intervention from relevant authorities.

“Political violence in Kabuchai, Bungoma County, by goons associated with Speaker Wetang’ula. The house of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has been attacked and destroyed. This is unacceptable,” the party stated, tagging the IEBC, National Police Service, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations in its appeal for action.

Security officers have yet to disclose arrests or identify the perpetrators, but investigations are ongoing. Kalasinga has urged authorities to pursue justice, insisting that the attack will not deter him from supporting candidates of his choice.
