Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga Claims Life in Danger, Accuses Wetang’ula of Issuing Threats
Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has sensationally claimed his life is in danger, accusing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of making threatening remarks against him.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Kalasinga said the threats are as a result of their ongoing political differences over the Chwele Ward by-election in Kabuchai Constituency.
According to the MP, Wetang’ula made the remarks while addressing delegates at his home, allegedly saying Kalasinga “would not make it to the next elections,” comments the MP interpreted as a direct threat to his life.
“My brother Wetang’ula, you know exactly what is happening. I have never called a press briefing for such a matter before. You said I will not cross over to the next elections. What did you mean? Should I be in heaven or Uganda?” Kalasinga asked.
The MP wants the government to increase his security, saying the tension between him and the Speaker could escalate further if not checked.
Kalasinga also wants Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to take immediate action by reviewing the video footage circulating in public to aid in the investigations into the alleged threats.
As of the time of publication, Speaker Wetang’ula had not responded to the claims personally and it was not clear if the MP had filed a police report.
Ford Kenya Party — led by Wetang’ula — has dismissed the claims as false and political. The Speaker’s Personal Assistant, Simiyu Mutaki, described the allegations as “baseless” and accused the MP of trying to tarnish Wetang’ula’s image ahead of the by-election.
“The remarks by the MP are shocking. As Ford Kenya we have maintained that the Chwele Ward by-election will be peaceful. We therefore dismiss these allegations in totality,” Mutaki said.
Mutaki also suggested Kalasinga is responsible for his own security lapses, saying the MP often travels abroad without his full security detail.
Despite the tension, both leaders are key figures in Bungoma County politics where the Chwele Ward by-election has deepened divisions within Ford Kenya’s local leadership.
