Kameme FM Dismisses Viral Shutdown Notice as Fake, Assures Listeners Operations Will Continue Normally
Popular vernacular radio station Kameme FM has moved swiftly to debunk a viral notice circulating on social media claiming that the broadcaster and several sister media outlets would be temporarily shut down over alleged compliance concerns.

The disputed notice, purportedly issued by the station’s parent company, Mediamax Network Limited, claimed that Kameme FM and its digital platforms would cease operations for 30 days beginning June 18 to address regulatory and internal compliance issues.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 17, Kameme FM categorically denied the claims, describing the notice as fake and warning members of the public against being misled by the misinformation.
“Fake news! The information did not come from the Mediamax company,” the station said in a brief but firm statement shared on its official X platform, alongside an image of the alleged notice.
The fake communication alleged that the temporary closure had been prompted by a show-cause notice from the Media Council of Kenya and claimed the suspension would provide time for internal restructuring and compliance-related training.
It further suggested that several other Mediamax-owned media outlets would also be affected, including Milele FM, Msenangu FM, Mayian FM, Meru FM, Emoo FM, K24 Digital and People Daily.
The claims quickly spread online, triggering speculation among listeners, advertisers and followers of the station regarding the future of the broadcaster’s operations.

Kameme FM has since reassured its audience that its radio broadcasts, online services and programming schedules remain unaffected and will continue as normal.
The station urged listeners, customers and business partners to disregard the purported notice entirely, insisting that any official communication from the company would only be issued through its verified and recognised platforms.
The incident highlights the growing challenge posed by misinformation and fabricated documents circulating on social media, where fake announcements attributed to institutions, companies and public figures increasingly gain traction before being verified.
Media experts have repeatedly cautioned the public against relying solely on unverified social media posts, urging users to confirm information through official channels before sharing it further.
For now, Kameme FM maintains that there are no plans to suspend its operations and has reaffirmed its commitment to serving its audience without interruption.
