Kenyan Consulate Launches 24/7 Emergency Helpline for Nationals in Saudi Arabia
The Kenyan government has announced the launch of a round-the-clock emergency consular service for its citizens living in Saudi Arabia, providing a vital lifeline for nationals in distress.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 14, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kenya in Jeddah confirmed that the service is accessible via a toll-free line.
“The Kenya Consulate in Jeddah has launched a toll-free number for emergency consular services available 24/7,” the consulate stated.
The service can be reached on 8001000352, ensuring that Kenyans in urgent need of assistance can access support at any hour. The consulate reassured citizens of its commitment to providing help with care and respect.
“We’re ready to help you navigate with care and respect. Call us anytime your safety and wellbeing matters. Help is only one call away,” the consulate added.
The launch comes months after the government unveiled a new minimum wage regulation for Kenyan workers in Saudi Arabia, set to take effect from February 2026.
In November, the Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh informed workers that the Saudi government would implement a minimum salary of SAR 1,000 (approximately Ksh34,455) per month for all employees, part of ongoing reforms to improve labor conditions and follow changes to the Kafala system.
“The Embassy encourages Kenyan workers to verify with their employers regarding the implementation of the new minimum wage and to report any concerns through the Embassy’s official channels,” the statement read.
In a separate initiative to protect nationals, the embassy also launched a mass registration exercise targeting Kenyans listed under Huroob—a status given to foreign workers who leave their employers without authorization. The registration aims to assist distressed nationals in returning home safely.
“Eligible Kenyans are advised to present themselves for Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC) processing with or without a passport, provided that you have any valid Kenyan identification document, such as National ID; Birth Certificate; Copy of Passport (if available); Driving License and Huduma Card,” the embassy explained.
The initiative is part of the embassy’s ongoing commitment to safeguard the welfare of Kenyans abroad and ensure they have a safe route back to their home country.
“This exercise is intended to assist Kenyans in distress and facilitate their safe return home,” the embassy concluded.
