Kenyan Man Threatens to Uproot Tree Over Truphena Muthoni’s Record – Guinness Responds
A spirited exchange between Guinness World Records and a Kenyan man has gone viral after the man threatened to bring both a tree and its record-breaking hugger to the organisation’s offices over a pending record verification.
The incident revolves around Truphena Muthoni, who earlier this year achieved a 48-hour tree-hugging record in Nairobi. While Guinness World Records has officially ratified her 48-hour achievement, her attempt to break a 72-hour record is still under review, leaving some fans impatient.
In a statement, Guinness World Records highlighted the significance of Truphena’s feat, noting that her attempt was “inspired by a deep-rooted passion for trees and the vital role they play in our ecosystem.” The organisation added:
“We know Truphena’s fans are excited to hear the results, and we look forward to receiving and assessing the evidence. For now, her current record stands at 48 hours, achieved earlier this year in Nairobi.”
However, not all Kenyans were content with the waiting period. Joseph Mainah took to social media with a humorous ultimatum, insisting that Guinness World Records either recognise the record immediately or face an unusual form of evidence verification.
“It’s either you recognize it, or we bring her and the tree she hugged to your offices for verification. We followed her for three days and nights, and you’re not doing it. And the way it’s cold,” he wrote.
Guinness World Records responded in kind, blending firmness with levity:
“Joseph Mainah, please leave the tree where it is,” they tweeted, sparking widespread amusement online.
Truphena Muthoni’s record attempt has since captured the imagination of many, shining a spotlight on Kenya’s environmental consciousness and the growing trend of eccentric but meaningful world record pursuits.
