Kioni Responds After Uhuru’s Warning Over Remarks Targeting Gachagua
Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has broken his silence following former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stern warning to party members over criticism of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Tuesday evening during an interview with TV47, Kioni said Uhuru’s message at the recent party meeting was not a rebuke but a reminder to uphold proper communication within the party.
“What the former President meant was our ability to communicate, and now we know that communication should come from one person who is our party spokesperson,” Kioni explained.
The secretary general disclosed that the party plans to hold a retreat beginning Thursday to streamline its communication strategy. He said the aim was to ensure future messaging focuses on real issues affecting Kenyans instead of political altercations.
“Now we know that communication should come from one voice. The day after tomorrow, we will have a retreat so that we can agree on the way to communicate,” he added.
Kioni admitted that the Jubilee Party has struggled with internal divisions since the 2022 general elections, which he said disrupted its communication channels. He accused unnamed individuals of attempting to seize control of the party illegally, further destabilizing its operations.
“Since we completed the 2022 elections, we have been on a journey, and I know the challenges we have been facing in the Jubilee Party,” Kioni stated. “Some tried to take over the party illegally, and they are people we all know,” he added.
His comments came less than a week after Kenyatta publicly reprimanded him and other members for allegedly using social media to attack Gachagua.
Speaking in Murang’a on November 7, Kenyatta condemned what he described as divisive politics within the party and urged members to engage respectfully. “And you, Kioni, I want to warn you about what you have been saying on social media, abusing Gachagua and others. I don’t want to witness that again. I will not tolerate abuse from others in my party,” the former president said.
Kenyatta, who attended a Jubilee grassroots meeting, emphasized the need for unity and discipline, calling on members to focus on strengthening the party’s presence rather than fueling internal disputes.
