Moses Kuria Exposes UDA Plot to Disrupt Rigathi Gachagua’s Campaign Rally
Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Party Leader Moses Kuria has raised alarm over what he describes as a deliberate scheme to disrupt Democracy for Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua’s forthcoming campaign tour, citing a fabricated Ksh10 million debt claim as the pretext.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, Kuria alleged that certain individuals associated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) were planning to infiltrate Gachagua’s rallies disguised as CCK supporters. He said the intention was to create the illusion that his party was behind a disturbance during the events.
“It has come to the attention of Chama Cha Kazi that some UDA functionaries are planning to disrupt Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign tour dressed in CCK uniforms,” Kuria said. “They will also demand Ksh10 million, which Hon Gachagua allegedly took from our candidate, Hon Duncan Mbui.”
Kuria clarified that neither Gachagua nor Mbui had any financial disputes, dismissing the allegations as an orchestrated smear campaign. “For the record, Hon Gachagua does not owe any money to Hon Mbui, and any claims to that effect should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” he stated.
The former Cabinet Secretary and current Presidential Advisor suggested the plan was a calculated move to tarnish both Gachagua’s and CCK’s public image. He further warned that such incidents could be early signs of renewed political tension ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kuria reiterated his party’s commitment to non-violence, saying CCK had learned hard lessons from Kenya’s 2007–2008 post-election unrest. “We will not be associated with any acts of political provocation,” he said.
He also appealed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to launch an investigation into the allegations and take preventive steps before the planned November 27 campaign event. “What will happen on November 27 is a harbinger of what could happen on August 10, 2027, if these schemes are ignored,” he cautioned.
The Mbeere North parliamentary by-election, in which CCK’s Duncan Mbui is contesting, has intensified political rivalry in the Mt Kenya region. The Democratic Party’s Newton Karish has the backing of the United Opposition, while President William Ruto’s UDA is supporting Leonard Muthende — setting the stage for a politically charged contest.
