KMTC Issues Urgent Warning Over Fake WhatsApp Admissions Scam as Thousands of Students Seek College Places
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has issued an urgent public warning after fraudsters circulated a fake admissions poster on social media, falsely claiming that prospective students can secure admission into the institution through a WhatsApp number.

The misleading poster, which has spread widely across various social media platforms, advertises admissions into several popular KMTC programmes and directs applicants to contact the mobile number 0739921898 for placement assistance.
The advertisement appears authentic at first glance, listing 18 certificate, diploma and higher diploma programmes offered by the institution, including highly sought-after courses such as Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Medical Engineering, Radiography, Optometry, Orthopaedic Technology and Health Records.

It also features specialised short courses, including Upper Extremity Splinting and Sign Language for Health Workers, making the fake notice appear even more convincing to unsuspecting applicants.
However, KMTC has distanced itself from the poster, warning that the WhatsApp number does not belong to the institution and should not be used for any admission-related inquiries.
In a statement, the college stressed that it does not conduct admissions through WhatsApp, personal phone numbers or informal telephone calls, urging members of the public to remain vigilant against scammers targeting students.
“KMTC does not process applications through personal WhatsApp numbers or phone calls,” the institution said.
Although the courses listed in the circulating poster are genuine programmes offered by KMTC, the institution clarified that fraudsters had simply used legitimate course names to deceive prospective applicants.
KMTC further reminded students that only official communication channels should be used when seeking information about admissions, placements or academic programmes.
A review of the institution’s official communication platforms confirms that KMTC’s recognised contacts include 020-2725711/2/3/4, 0770 999657, 0737 352543, and 0706 541869. The college also uses official email addresses including info@kmtc.ac.ke for general inquiries, admissions@kmtc.ac.ke for admissions, verifications@kmtc.ac.ke for academic verification services, and examsecretariat@kmtc.ac.ke for examination-related matters.
The institution also clarified that only in-service applicants submit applications directly through the KMTC Admissions Portal, while all other applicants seeking placement into KMTC programmes must apply through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
The warning comes at a time when thousands of students are actively searching for university and college admission opportunities following the recent release of the 2025 KCSE placement results by KUCCPS.
The placement agency announced that 293,869 students secured placements into universities, TVET institutions and teacher training colleges for the 2025/2026 academic year, marking a significant increase compared to previous annual placement figures.

Education stakeholders have repeatedly warned that fraudsters often exploit admission periods by creating fake advertisements, impersonating government institutions and demanding payments from unsuspecting students in exchange for non-existent admission opportunities.
KMTC has urged prospective students and parents to verify all admission information through its official platforms and to report any suspicious messages or individuals claiming to offer placements through unofficial channels.
