KNEC to Release 2025 KCSE Results on Friday
The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the results of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will be officially released on Friday, January 9, bringing an end to weeks of anxiety for nearly one million candidates and their families.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba is expected to announce the results at a national briefing to be held in Eldoret at 9:30am, according to officials within the ministry. The announcement will mark a critical milestone in Kenya’s education calendar, as KCSE results determine students’ eligibility for university admission, technical institutions, and other post-secondary pathways.
The 2025 KCSE examinations concluded on November 21 after approximately five weeks of continuous testing, having commenced on October 21. This year, 996,000 candidates sat for the national examination, one of the highest numbers recorded in recent years, reflecting rising enrolment in secondary education across the country.
Speaking earlier during the Omogusii Cultural Festival held at Kenyoro School Groups in North Mugirango, CS Ogamba had assured the public that the marking and verification process was progressing smoothly and that the ministry would adhere to the long-standing tradition of releasing results in January.
“The KCSE examination results will be released within the next two weeks,” Ogamba said at the time. “Traditionally, the KCSE examinations are normally announced in January, and we are keeping to that tradition.”
In the lead-up to the announcement, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) activated its online results portal earlier this week, allowing parents and candidates to prepare for access once the results are officially made public. However, the portal clearly indicated that results would remain inaccessible until clearance is given by the Ministry of Education.
Education officials explained that the early activation of the system is a standard technical procedure aimed at ensuring the platform is fully operational and capable of handling the heavy traffic that typically follows the release of KCSE results nationwide.
Once the results are announced, candidates will be required to log into the KNEC portal using their index numbers and the 2025 examination year to view their provisional results.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has moved to dismiss false claims circulating on social media suggesting that the KCSE results had already been released. In a statement issued on Saturday, January 3, CS Ogamba strongly warned the public against falling victim to misinformation.
“Treat such fake and misleading news with the contempt it deserves,” Ogamba said, while flagging a fabricated post that had gone viral online.
The ministry has urged candidates and parents to rely solely on official government communication channels for accurate information, warning that the spread of false reports causes unnecessary panic and emotional distress.
As anticipation builds ahead of Friday’s announcement, schools, parents, and students across the country are bracing for the outcome, which will shape academic and career prospects for nearly a million young Kenyans.
