Langata Road, Uhuru Highway Set for Temporary Closure Ahead of Grand Nairobi Bike Race

The annual cycling event is now one of the biggest in East Africa and will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025 with over 3,500 cyclists from more than 20 countries.

Sections of Langata Road, Uhuru Highway, Bunyala Road, Kenyatta Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue and Douglas Wakiihuri Road will be affected. The race will cover routes around Uhuru Gardens, Wilson Airport, Upper Hill and parts of the Central Business District.

The race will flag off at 6 a.m. from Nyayo Stadium which will also be the main venue. The National Police Service and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have not yet released final traffic management details but motorists have been advised to plan alternative routes.

Since 2021 the Grand Nairobi Bike Race has grown and attracted riders from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and beyond. This year’s edition will have multiple categories including the 75km Main Race, 45km Black Mamba and Para-Cycling events, 15km Family Fun Ride and a special Kiddie Race.

The competition also comes with bigger prizes this year. The overall winner will take home Ksh4 million up from Ksh3 million last year.

With thousands of cyclists and fans expected in Nairobi, organisers have assured residents that security and event logistics are in place for a smooth race day.
