Limuru MP John Kiragu Injured In Grisly Crash With Fuel Bowser

Limuru MP John Kiragu Cheats Death In Horror Crash With Fuel Bowser As SUV Is Left Mangled

John Kiragu Chege has narrowly escaped death after being involved in a horrific road accident with a fuel bowser on Friday afternoon, in an incident that left his vehicle extensively damaged and sparked concern among supporters.

The Limuru legislator was travelling in his Toyota Land Cruiser TX when the collision occurred under circumstances that were still unclear by Friday evening. Images circulating online showed the SUV with its bonnet completely crushed, shattered body panels, and debris strewn across the roadway — evidence of the violent impact between the two vehicles.

Photos from the scene further revealed severe damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle, raising fears that the crash could have ended in tragedy.

Despite the terrifying ordeal, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker confirmed that he, his driver, and his bodyguard survived the crash without sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Speaking after the accident, Kiragu described the incident as a miracle and thanked God for sparing their lives.

“This afternoon, I was involved in a serious road accident. By the grace of God, despite the intensity of the crash, my driver, bodyguard, and I are safe and doing well,” the MP said in a statement.

He added:

“We remain deeply grateful for God’s protection and for the concern, prayers, and support from everyone.”

The accident has once again drawn attention to the growing number of road crashes involving senior politicians and public officials across Kenya, many of whom have escaped death in recent months.

Before joining politics, Kiragu built a professional career in engineering and infrastructure development. He previously worked as a quality inspector at the Athi Water Works Development Agency, specialising in quality assurance and control for major infrastructure projects.

Friday’s crash comes just months after Mugambi Rindikiri was involved in a road accident along the Nanyuki–Meru Highway while heading to attend William Ruto’s NYOTA programme at Kinoru Stadium earlier this year.

In that incident, the Buuri MP escaped unharmed and later continued with his official engagements after receiving medical assessment.

Similarly, in 2024, John Paul Mwirigi survived a frightening road crash in Chuka, Meru County, after the vehicle he was travelling in lost control and rolled onto its side in the Kirubia area. All occupants escaped without serious injuries.

The latest incident involving Kiragu is likely to renew debate over road safety standards and the dangers posed by heavy commercial vehicles on Kenyan highways.
