Millie Odhiambo Speaks on Viral Russian Scandal Involving Kenyan Women

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has expressed serious concern over what she describes as the gullibility of some Kenyan women when dealing with foreigners. Her comments came on Sunday, February 15, following a scandal that has set social media abuzz.

The controversy involves a Russian man, identified as Yaytseslav Trahov, who filmed himself interacting with unsuspecting women in public spaces. In clips posted on TikTok, Trahov lures random women, inviting them to follow him to private locations. Notably, the videos stop short of showing intimate encounters, but the breach of trust is clear.

“Out of order and unacceptable”

From the very start, Millie didn’t mince her words. She condemned the man’s actions, stressing that invading the privacy of women who trusted him was completely unacceptable.

“I wonder what the women implicated in the Russian criminal fiasco are going through with their faces all over social media. I hope the guy is arrested and jailed,” she said.

She also called for legal action, insisting that Trahov must be arrested and prosecuted for his behavior.

A warning to Kenyan women

But Millie didn’t stop at condemning the foreigner. She also turned her attention to Kenyan women themselves, questioning why some tend to lower their guard when approached by foreigners they perceive as high-status.

She observed that many women remain cautious and assertive around local men, yet seem to relax those boundaries when encountering foreigners.

“That aside, we need to be honest. If a random Kenyan man were to approach a decent Kenyan woman for sex, would she willingly show up without question, the way the women did? We must decolonize our minds that make us believe that some races are more superior. Secondly, even though we live in a free world, self-respect is still paramount,” Millie said.

Her comments sparked conversations on the balance between personal freedom and self-respect, highlighting the importance of dignity even in a modern, open society.

Social concerns and global patterns

The debate around Trahov’s actions has extended beyond morality into social safety. Many Kenyans questioned why the women agreed to visit the man’s residence, especially amid rising fears over femicide. Others suggested that perhaps the Russian was merely seeking companionship and that no direct harm occurred.

Investigations also revealed that Trahov has displayed similar behavior across other African countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, and Ghana, raising broader concerns about how foreigners interact with local women.

Millie Odhiambo’s message

Ultimately, Millie’s remarks combine caution with empowerment. She stresses that while women have the right to associate with anyone they choose, it should never come at the cost of their dignity or self-respect. Her call serves as both a warning and a reminder: freedom is important, but self-worth is irreplaceable.
