Ministry of Defence Advertises 45 Civilian Jobs for KCSE D and D+ Holders

The Ministry of Defence has announced 45 permanent and pensionable civilian vacancies, opening opportunities for Kenyan job seekers with Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) grades of D and D+.

In a notice published on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the ministry said it is seeking to recruit 30 Garden Assistant III officers and 15 Support Staff/Sanitary Cleaners to serve across its facilities.

According to the advertisement, interested applicants must download and complete the PSC 2 (Revised 2016) application form from the Public Service Commission (PSC) website and submit it together with copies of relevant academic and professional certificates.

Completed applications should be sent to the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, P.O. Box 40668–00100, Nairobi, or delivered by hand to Ulinzi House, off Lenana Road. The ministry said all applications must be received on or before January 20, 2026.

Job roles and qualifications

The Garden Assistant III positions are open to candidates with a minimum KCSE mean grade of D+ (Plus) or an equivalent qualification. Successful applicants will be tasked with maintaining lawns, gardens and flowerbeds at Ministry of Defence establishments, as well as State House grounds and official lodges.

“These officers will support landscaping and general grounds maintenance at key government facilities,” the ministry stated in the advert.

The roles attract a basic monthly salary ranging from Sh19,340 to Sh24,470, in addition to a house allowance, a commuter allowance of Sh3,000 per month and an annual leave allowance of Sh4,000.

Meanwhile, the Support Staff/Sanitary Cleaner posts are entry-level positions available to applicants with a KCSE mean grade of D (plain) or an equivalent qualification. Candidates must also possess a certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution.

Duties for the role include sanitary cleaning, messengerial work and other related support services. The positions offer a basic monthly salary of between Sh18,250 and Sh22,720, alongside commuter, house and leave allowances.

Application guidelines

The Ministry of Defence warned that canvassing will result in automatic disqualification and stressed that the recruitment process will be conducted competitively.

“The Ministry is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from all qualified persons regardless of gender, age, race, culture, religion, marital status or disability,” the notice said.

It added that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The vacancies come at a time when several government ministries and state departments are stepping up recruitment, with the Public Service Commission in recent weeks advertising hundreds of additional positions across different sectors as part of broader public service staffing efforts.
