Morara Kebaso Hints Return to Politics Two Weeks After Exit

Inject Party leader Morara Kebaso has hinted at a return to active politics barely two weeks after he announced his exit from the political scene, citing renewed sense of national duty.

Kebaso, a civic educator turned politician, had earlier announced his decision to step aside, citing personal exhaustion and disillusionment with the political environment. His exit, announced in mid-June 2025, was accompanied by a promise to refund public contributions to his civic education campaign and a call for personal peace amid reported security threats and intense media scrutiny.

But in a statement on Saturday, July 5, Kebaso changed his mind, saying stepping aside was no longer an option given the state of the country.

“I have decided this is not the kind of country I want my children to grow up in. And I am not ready to move elsewhere because I like the food, the weather, the trees and the people,” he said. “So ladies and gentlemen, fighting for it is not a choice I should make—it is a duty I cannot avoid.”

Kebaso’s statement has elicited mixed reactions on social media, with some commenting that he should “come back with a new paybill number” referencing his previous fundraising campaign.

While Kebaso didn’t confirm if he will re-launch his presidential bid, his statement suggests he is still very much in the national political conversation. His initial exit was seen as a pause in what many thought was a rising political trajectory fuelled by his grassroots civic education and public engagement strategies.

Analysts say Kebaso’s possible re-entry could shake up the opposition space in Kenya as the 2027 general elections start to take shape.

Kebaso has not announced his next move or outlined his plans. But his statement suggests his exit from public life may not be permanent.
