Moses Kuria blasts Wamatangi over 3-year real estate approval delays in Kiambu

Moses Kuria erupts at Kiambu governor over โ€˜crippling delaysโ€™ as property sector grinds to a halt

Former Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has launched a blistering attack on Kimani Wamatangi, accusing the Kiambu County administration of paralysing the regionโ€™s lucrative real estate sector through years of stalled approvals.

In a strongly worded statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Kuria claimed that bureaucratic inertia within the county government has effectively โ€œchokedโ€ one of the countyโ€™s most vital economic engines.

Kuria described the property market as the โ€œheartbeatโ€ of Kiambuโ€™s economy, warning that delays in processing construction and development permitsโ€”some stretching up to three yearsโ€”have triggered a wave of uncertainty among investors and developers.

โ€œThe real estate sector is the backbone of Kiambuโ€™s economy. Sitting on approvals for three years is a massive disservice to the people and investors,โ€ Kuria said.

The outspoken politician further argued that the prolonged inaction risks driving investors away from Kiambu, with many reportedly redirecting capital to neighbouring counties perceived to have more efficient and predictable regulatory frameworks.

Industry observers note that Kiambu, which borders Nairobi, has historically been a hotspot for real estate growth due to its proximity to the capital and expanding middle-class population. However, concerns over bureaucratic bottlenecks have increasingly cast a shadow over its investment appeal.

Kuriaโ€™s remarks are likely to intensify pressure on Governor Wamatangiโ€™s administration to address the alleged inefficiencies, as stakeholders in the construction and property sectors demand urgent reforms to restore confidence and unlock stalled projects.
