Mt Kenya Will Back Ruto in 2027, Says Waiguru

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has boldly declared that the Mount Kenya region will rally firmly behind William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, signalling growing political momentum for the Head of State within the vote-rich bloc.

Speaking during a high-level meeting between grassroots leaders from Kirinyaga County and the President at State House Nairobi on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Waiguru insisted that support for Ruto across the region remains unwavering despite shifting political undercurrents.

The governor suggested that critics and political opponents may be underestimating the President’s popularity, warning they would be “shocked” by the eventual outcome at the ballot.

“We will not only go round Kirinyaga but the entire Mt Kenya region, and they will be surprised by the number of votes Ruto will get. Will that not be the case?” she posed, addressing local leaders in what appeared to be a show of unity and mobilisation ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Her remarks come amid increasing political activity in the Mt Kenya region, widely regarded as a crucial battleground in Kenya’s electoral landscape. Analysts have long pointed to the region’s significant voting power, making it a key determinant in presidential contests.

Waiguru’s statement is likely to intensify political debate, particularly among leaders seeking to challenge Ruto’s influence in the region, as early alignments for the 2027 race begin to take shape.
