A Kenyan woman working in Australia has died under mysterious circumstances, prompting an official investigation by the Kenyan High Commission in Canberra amid growing concerns from her family over inconsistencies surrounding the incident.

The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Sheila Chebii, is reported to have died on Monday, May 18, shortly after arriving at her workplace in Australia.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 25, the Kenyan High Commission confirmed that it was working closely with Australian authorities to establish the circumstances that led to her death.
“The High Commission urges members of the public to refrain from speculation or dissemination of unverified information while the relevant authorities undertake the necessary investigations and coronial processes,” part of the statement read.
The embassy further stated that it was actively seeking factual updates from Australian agencies in accordance with local laws and investigative procedures.
According to relatives, Sheila had checked into her workstation moments before the tragic incident unfolded. Family members allege that she was later discovered on the fourth floor of the building after reportedly falling from the 19th floor, where she had been carrying out her duties.
However, the family says several unanswered questions surrounding the incident have deepened their suspicions.
Among the concerns raised is the nature of the injuries reportedly sustained by the deceased. Relatives claim Sheila suffered what they described as minimal physical injuries despite the alleged fall from a significant height.
The family alleges that the injuries included a small wound on the forehead, bruises on her arms, damage to one eye, and an injury on the hip — details they argue do not appear consistent with a fall from the 19th floor.
Questions have also emerged regarding the absence of eyewitness accounts.
According to the family, CCTV footage reportedly only captured Sheila entering a hallway on the 19th floor moments before she was later found on the fourth floor. No footage of the actual fall has reportedly been made available.
Further confusion has arisen over the timeline of events surrounding her death.
Relatives claim police reports indicated Sheila died at around noon. However, family members insist she made phone calls and sent messages around the same time, raising fresh concerns over the accuracy of the timeline provided.
In response to the growing public concern, the Kenyan Mission in Canberra acknowledged the issues raised by the family and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Kenyans living and working in Australia.

The High Commission pledged to pursue the matter comprehensively while continuing to liaise with Australian authorities as investigations progress.
At the same time, officials cautioned the public against spreading unverified claims before investigators conclude their findings.
Further updates are expected in the coming days as authorities continue with coronial and police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Sheila Chebii’s death.
