Nairobi Water Announces 24-Hour Disruption Across 14 Estates for Pipeline Upgrade
Thousands of homes in Nairobi are set to experience a temporary water shortage after NCWSC announced a scheduled outage in 14 estates.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, October 2, the utility company said the disruption will start on Friday, October 3 at 6:00 a.m. and end on Saturday, October 4 at 8:00 a.m.
According to the company, engineers will be working with AWWDA to carry out interconnection works on the Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline at the Gigiri Pumping Station and Reservoirs.
“This is a temporary shutdown as part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades to improve water distribution and ensure more reliable supply to city residents,” the notice read.
Areas to Be Affected
The outage will affect residential and commercial areas including:
- Lavington – Riverside, Gitanga Road, Chalbi Drive and surrounding areas.
- Kileleshwa – Kandara Road, Mazeras Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, DoD, St. George’s School and environs.
- Mamlaka & Valley Road – University of Nairobi (UoN) and areas along Mamlaka Line.
- Kilimani – Argwings Kodhek Road, Hurlingham Shopping Centre, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Denis Pritt Road, Coptic Hospital and surrounding estates.
- Kawangware & Dagoretti – Lower Gitanga Road, Sunset Estate, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Kabiria, Waithaka, Dagoretti Market and nearby areas.
- Uthiru & Muthua, Ngong Road & Upper Hill, Kibera & Highrise, Langata, Karen, CBD & Mombasa Road, Ngara & Gigiri, Industrial Area, Eastleigh, Mathare are also affected.The company also said major institutions such as CBD, JKIA, South B and C, Mater Hospital, KNH, UNEP headquarters and several industries will also be affected.
Residents
Nairobi Water advises residents and businesses to store water before the shutdown and conserve during the outage.
Supply will resume normal after the works are done.
