The planned shutdown will begin at 8:00am on Monday and end at 8:00am on Tuesday, November 10, according to a public notice issued by the utility company on Sunday.

Nairobi Water said the interruption would facilitate the installation of new pipe connections near Kianda School along Waiyaki Way.

The company explained that the works are intended to improve the reliability of water supply within the affected areas.

In its notice, Nairobi Water informed customers and the general public that the planned maintenance would affect residential neighbourhoods, commercial establishments and several public institutions across the city.

Why Nairobi Water Is Interrupting Supply

Nairobi Water said the interruption is necessary to allow the installation of new pipe connections near Kianda School along Waiyaki Way.

Such works form part of the utility’s infrastructure maintenance and improvement activities, which are intended to strengthen the city’s water distribution network.

The company said the planned works would help improve the reliability of water supply to customers in the affected areas.

However, residents should expect reduced or unavailable water supply during the scheduled maintenance period.

Nairobi Water Advises Residents to Store Water

Customers in the affected neighbourhoods have been urged to use the water available to them sparingly throughout the interruption.

Households, businesses, hospitals and other institutions that rely on the city’s water network should consider storing sufficient water before Monday morning.

Residents should also prioritise essential domestic needs, including drinking, cooking, cleaning and sanitation.

Businesses such as restaurants, salons, laundries and other water-dependent establishments may also need to make alternative arrangements to minimise disruption to their operations.

Previous Nairobi Water Shutdowns Across the City

The latest announcement comes days after the utility company implemented another planned interruption affecting parts of Nairobi.

The previous shutdown ran from 3:00am on Thursday, November 5, to 8:00am on Friday, November 6, to facilitate connection works on the Karimenu Transmission Pipeline.

That interruption affected several neighbourhoods, including Kasarani, Mwiki, Clay City, Ruai, Njiru, Roysambu, Zimmerman, Kahawa Barracks, Kenyatta University, Kayole, Komarock, Soweto and Matopeni.

In October 2026, Nairobi Water also announced a three-day interruption scheduled from October 26 to October 29 to facilitate emergency repairs on the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline.

The earlier shutdown affected areas such as Westlands, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Lavington, Kibera, Jamhuri, Upper Hill and parts of Langata.

The repeated maintenance announcements highlight the ongoing work being undertaken to maintain and improve Nairobi’s water distribution infrastructure.

When Will Water Supply Resume?

According to the latest notice, the planned interruption is expected to end at 8:00am on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

Residents should, however, allow for possible delays as water supply returns through the distribution network following completion of the works.

Customers can monitor updates through Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company’s official communication channels and website at www.nairobiwater.co.ke.

Residents are encouraged to complete their water storage preparations before 8:00am on Monday to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.

The utility company has urged customers across the affected neighbourhoods to conserve available water as engineers undertake the planned connection works.
