National Police Service to hold countrywide recruitment on November 17
The National Police Service (NPS) is getting set to kick off with a nationwide recruitment drive for police constables – and it’s set to happen on November 17, 2025 at 422 designated centres all over the country.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the whole thing is aimed at boosting Kenya’s security services by increasing the country’s policing capacity. “We’re looking at a completely free and open process to anyone who is qualified and meets the requirements,” he said in a statement that went out on Thursday.
The big day will kick off at 8 in the morning and will be overseen by senior police officers and reps from various government agencies to make sure everything is as transparent and fair as possible.
This announcement comes just a few days after the High Court made the ruling that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) doesn’t have the authority to recruit, train or promote officers, meaning that those type of decisions are all going to fall to the Inspector General under Article 245 of the Constitution.
If you’re thinking of putting in an application, you have to be a Kenyan citizen, aged between 18 and 28, have a valid national id, and you’ll need to have got at least a D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) including a D+ in English or Kiswahili. And of course, you’ll need to be in reasonable physical shape – minimum height for men is 5 feet 8 inches and for women 5 feet 3 inches. There’s a little extra rule for women – they’d have to be not pregnant at the time of recruitment and for the duration of the training.
The NPS is also making a bit of a special plea to NYS grads to come and apply – they reckon their experience will put them at an advantage. On the other hand, Inspector General Douglas Kanja is putting all sorts of warning labels on corruption and bribery – “trying to influence the process with a bribe is seriously wrong and has the potential to get you in a whole heap of trouble”, he says.
The public is being asked to report any whiff of corruption or malpractice – they can reach out on hotlines 999, 911, 112 or through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800722203. The NPS is promising that any reports they get will stay completely confidential.
If you are looking to apply, you’ll need to fill in a form that can be downloaded from official government websites or picked up at a Huduma Centre near you. When you show up at your assigned recruitment centre, you’ll need to bring along the original copies of all your certificates and documents – though don’t worry, all that will be returned to you once it’s been verified.
The NPS wants to make it clear that all the original documents will be returned to applicants once they’ve been checked.
