NPS Details Qualifications & Requirements for November 17 Police Constables Recruitment Exercise

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced that the recruitment of Police Constables will be held nationwide on November 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NPS said applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28, hold a valid national ID, and have at least a D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including a D+ in English or Kiswahili.

Candidates must also be physically and medically fit. Minimum height requirements are five feet eight inches for men and five feet three inches for women. Female applicants must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

The Service said National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet these conditions are encouraged to apply.

Application forms are available on the websites of the NPS, Kenya Police, Administration Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and MyGov, or at Huduma Centres.

Applicants must appear in person at their local recruitment centres with original and photocopies of their academic certificates, national ID, and birth certificate. NYS graduates must also present a discharge certificate with a minimum “Good” conduct rating.

The NPS warned that the exercise is free and corruption-free, adding that any form of bribery or misinformation will lead to prosecution.

“The National Police Service recruitment drive is free and open to all qualified candidates,” the statement read. “Engaging in bribery or providing false information constitutes a criminal offence.”

The announcement comes days after the Employment and Labour Relations Court nullified a previous recruitment of 10,000 officers, ruling that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) lacks authority to conduct such exercises.

Justice Hellen Wasilwa said the NPSC is not a national security organ and cannot recruit or deploy officers, functions constitutionally reserved for the Inspector General.

The court issued a permanent injunction barring the NPSC from undertaking any recruitment and directed that the Police Service laws be reviewed to align with the Constitution.
