Nyali MP Mohammed Ali Hints at Teaming Up with Edwin Sifuna After Meeting Rigathi Gachagua

Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has dropped hints that he might be joining forces with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The signals came after a morning meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that seemed more than just a casual chat.

Sharing the encounter on his social media accounts on Sunday, February 15, 2025, Ali posted photos that included Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, accompanied by a cryptic message:

“When young leaders attack, they do so not with anger but advance from every corner with vision and unstoppable noise.”

He added a hint about future political moves, stating, “Ngoma imeanza sasa.”

Opposition Shake-Up: Possible Sifuna Faction Merger

Ali’s meeting with Gachagua comes amid talks of a potential realignment in the opposition camp. Just days before, Gachagua suggested that the Sifuna-led ODM wing could merge with the broader United Opposition.

Speaking to K24 TV and several Maa-language radio stations on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Gachagua included Sifuna’s faction in what he called the “broader opposition lineup.” He said that if a strong presidential candidate emerged—someone capable of challenging President William Ruto, like Siaya Governor James Orengo—the current opposition heavyweights would step aside to back that candidate.

Gachagua also mentioned Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah as another potential candidate. He explained that should Omtatah prove the strongest contender, opposition leaders would similarly rally behind him:

“Kama hawa watu wa ODM B watatoa mtu akuje, kama ni Omtatah, pia akuje, tukae chini, tuulizane nani kati yetu ako na umarufu wa kutosha wa kusukuma huyu mtu aende nyumbani. Tutasikizana,” he said.

This comes just before the Sifuna-led ODM faction, now often called the ODM rebels or the Linda Wananchi team, is set to hold a rally in Kitengela. The event is seen as a response to Sifuna’s attempted ouster from the Secretary General position, signaling a possible pushback within the party.

Mohammed Ali’s Gubernatorial Ambitions

While Ali has been openly critical of the current government lately, it’s worth remembering that he once campaigned vigorously for it. Now, he seems to have his sights on Mombasa’s gubernatorial seat under the United Opposition banner.

He’s been spotted in recent weeks with not only Gachagua but also Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, fueling speculation that Ali is building alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

It seems the political landscape in Kenya is quietly shifting, and Ali’s next move might just tip the scales in Mombasa—and beyond.
