Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s Son Hospitalised After Serious Road Accident
The family of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been hit by fresh concern after his son, Dan Obado, popularly known as Dan Toto, was reportedly involved in a road accident while travelling from Nairobi to Migori.
Dan was involved in the crash on Saturday, August 1, while driving a Lexus LX 600, according to reports.
Images and footage said to have been obtained after the accident showed the luxury SUV badly wrecked, with extensive damage visible across the vehicle.
A towing truck was later seen at the scene as efforts were made to remove the mangled vehicle from the road.
Dan was reportedly taken to hospital after sustaining minor injuries. He later addressed the incident on social media, confirming that he had been involved in an accident while travelling home from Nairobi.
In a message thanking those who had contacted him, Dan said three people were inside the vehicle he was driving.
“To friends and relatives, I thank you so much for sending me the best of wishes and prayers. It’s true I was in an accident on my way home from Nairobi,” he stated.
He added that everyone involved escaped with minor injuries.
“Luckily, all three occupants in the vehicle I was driving and the driver of the other car — he was alone — escaped with minor injuries. In all, we give thanks to the Lord,” Dan said.
The circumstances surrounding the collision had not been publicly established at the time of publication. Reports indicated that police were investigating the incident, although Dan did not disclose what caused the crash.
The accident comes just days after the Obado family faced another major development, following the conviction of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado in the high-profile murder case involving Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
On July 23, High Court Judge Cecilia Githua found Obado guilty alongside his former personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Migori County clerk Caspal Obiero. The court ruled that prosecutors had proved the murder case against the three accused beyond reasonable doubt.
Justice Githua said the evidence presented during the lengthy trial formed a complete chain linking the three men to the crime.
The court subsequently cancelled their bond terms pending sentencing, with pre-sentence and victim-assessment reports ordered before the case returns to court.
The latest accident therefore comes at a particularly difficult moment for the prominent Migori family, with Dan now recovering in hospital while his father’s legal case moves towards sentencing.
For now, the focus remains on Dan’s recovery, with relatives and friends continuing to send messages of support and prayers following the crash.
