Police Rescues Pakistani National from Mob Lynching After Conning Locals in Nakuru
A Pakistani man was rescued from a near-death situation in Nakuru after residents tried to lynch him over fraud allegations before police officers intervened just in time.
According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday, September 7, the suspect, Ahmad Shabbir, was rescued by police officers from Nakuru North Sub-County after locals accused him of swindling them through deceitful schemes.
“Officers from Nakuru North Sub-County saved Pakistani national Ahmad Shabbir from a mob intent on attacking him after claims that he defrauded residents of their money through false pretences,” read part of the DCI’s statement.
The incident happened after word went round that the suspect had been cornered by residents demanding justice. Police officers responded swiftly and managed to rescue him from the mob. Two of his alleged accomplices managed to escape.
Investigations revealed that Shabbir is not new to fraud-related cases. He had been arrested in Ahero and released on bond but allegedly resumed his fraudulent activities despite being required to report back to Ahero Police Station on August 20, 2025.
“Preliminary findings show Shabbir and his accomplices are linked to similar cases in the area. He was out on bond for obtaining money by false pretences but continued with his schemes,” DCI added.
The suspect is in custody as detectives hunt for his accomplices who are still at large.
This comes a day after detectives in Lamu County arrested two other fraud suspects posing as Safaricom agents. Alex Mutua Kisulu and Daniel Kioko Wambua had been moving around Watamu conning locals into registering for fake till numbers and Pochi La Biashara accounts.
Their cover was blown when they entered the wrong PIN while trying to con a businessman, exposing their plan. Detectives moved in fast and arrested the suspects and recovered mobile phones, fake registration forms and Safaricom branded clothing.
The two are being held at Watamu Police Station and will face fraud charges in court.
